Edward Vom Hofe Model 423 Early 5/0 Size Fly ReelFor sale here is a very rare first model Edward Vom Hofe Model 423 fly reel made for Colonel William Cutting of Pittsfield, Mass. Made in 1890 (before it was called the Restigouche model, which was coined circa 1911). In this time period, the model was referred to as the "Celebrated Salmon and Grilse Click Reel". In the late 1800s this size (4 3 8" diameter) was designated as 5 0 (became size 6 0 circa 1911). The reel is in excellent original

Black handle

Near mint condition with only the slightest signs of handling

The side plates are anodized black and the spool and rim are a light champagne color

One tip has a missing guide (the original guide will ship with the rod) and a 1/4 inch clear protective wrap above the 2nd guide

The tip sections are numbered

The rod features medium-flamed cane

The box is 6" x 3 1/2" x 1" and in very fine condition

Nickel silver bands

No die stamp on the butt cap

Nickel silver cap and ring are oxidized and stamped "T

The butt provides ample power while the limber tip section allows for delicacy and excellent tippet protection
